GPS Watches: Great for Child Safety and Fitness Training
The Global Positioning System satellites do more than assist in navigation and positioning. Part of the GPS system is dedicated to accurate time keeping, which is an essential aspect of its
operation. By emitting a signal and measuring the time it takes to return, the satellites can determine location. These timed signals
also enable GPS watches to keep the correct time as well as provide accurate locations.
Many parents are now using GPS watches to find missing children with several services available to locate lost kids within minutes.
Children's GPS watches have many of the same functions as a typical digital watch. In addition, if the child does not return on schedule,
parents can log onto the internet or phone the service center and access a map of the child's location, including a street address, within a few
feet of the location.
Some GPS watches also include the capability of notifying the nearest 911 emergency call center when the child is in distress. Pressing two
buttons automatically sends a call to 911. The requirement to press two keys at once helps to prevent accidental notifications if the
watched is bumped.
GPS Watches Automatically Adjust to the Local Time Zone
Another great feature of GPS watches is their ability to display the correct time even when traveling across time zones. Signals from
the satellite, each containing a data stream to verify time, adjust and update the watch's time on the run. This ability to keep track of time
can also make GPS watches an ideal training partner for your workouts.

Watches, specifically designed to monitor time, speed and distance with features built into GPS watches allows the user to
download the data into their computer to help track their fitness plan. You can set certain times and distances into a GPS watch and when you
reach those benchmarks an alarm will sound, alerting you that you have reached one of your goals.
Some of the more advanced GPS watches such as the Garmin Forerunner offer more advanced features with more information than most people will
ever use. These high tech devices have up to 12 channels and many include an altimeter, barometer and compass as well as a clock. You can store
individual routes for a run or even a drive, along with various points along the way. Using it for exercising or travel lets you know your
location at all times, as well as how long it has taken.
